STAMP CANCELLATION PROJECT 2010
What fun project can you do with 52 Counties and 52 weeks in a year?
Thanks to the creative genius, Rick Vanderpool, we've come up with a special stamp cancellation for each county. The TPTR and the Postal Service are partnering together to do a pictorial postmark in the county seat of 52 counties in the Plains Region beginning Wednesday, January 6, 2010 and ending December 29, 2010. Each Wednesday of 2010 a different post office in a different county will do a pictorial postmark. This is an effort to promote travel and heritage tourism by connecting points of pride, and hopefully generate a little revenue for the Postal Service. An identical postage cancel for your county has been produced for each county seat Post Office. Scroll down to bottom of page to see what date your county's cancellation day will be. WE WILL BE IN Lipscomb/Lipscomb County on Wednesday, September 1, 2010.
WHAT DOES YOUR COUNTY NEED TO DO?
Spread the word that on your county's designated date representatives from the Texas Plains Trail Region will be at the County Seat Post Office at 11:00 a.m. This would be a great time to gather your county notables such as Mayor, Commissioners, Judges, Chambers, Newspaper, Clubs & Organizations for a photo and to show support. We would love to talk with your 4th and 7th Grade Texas History students and also give a presentation to a local organization if possible. SEE WEEKLY PICTURES BELOW THE SCHEDULE! Let us know if we can help. For those who want the whole collection, you will have to call each Post Office to get it. We have included the Post Office telephone numbers. The Special Stamp is good for 30 Days from the stamp date. Find out more about each county with a click on it. In addition, we held an art contest where students were asked to draw a simple picture representing the Panhandle for use on an envelope cachet - a graphic that usually appears in the bottom left corner of the envelope.The winner of the contest is 17-year-old Jaime Vaquera, a senior at Plainview High School, who titled his drawing “History and Memories.” The post office also will have envelopes with the special cachet available for sale.
