HISTORY OF RANDALL COUNTY

Randall County is located in the south central part of the Texas Panhandle. The County was officially formed in 1889 and consists of approximately 933 square miles with an estimated 750 miles of roads. Significant cities are Amarillo and Canyon, the county seat of Randall County. It is home to West Texas A&M University, Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge, Palo Duro Canyon State Park and the biggest museum in the State of Texas, Panhandle Plains Historical Museum. The County has an estimated population of 114,000 and is currently enjoying a growth rate of 3% per year. The 1909 County Court house will soon be restored to its original condition.
